Full Spectrum CBD vs. Broad Spectrum CBD

Full Spectrum CBD vs. Broad Spectrum CBD

You can go ahead and stop your Googling. Unlike multiplying binomials and term paper citations (which we’ve been floundering through with our kids at home), we can actually help with this one!

The Different Types of CBD

There are three main types of CBD: Full spectrum CBD, broad spectrum CBD, and CBD isolate. The difference between them is based on their cannabinoid composition. The hemp plant naturally contains over 100 different cannabinoids. The two most well known are CBD and it’s psychoactive cousin, THC. All of these cannabinoids work together synergistically to achieve the benefits that are commonly associated with CBD use. This concept is called the “entourage effect.”

Full Spectrum CBD

Full spectrum CBD is considered by many (with scientific backing) to be the most effective because it contains all of these cannabinoids along with a plethora of up to 400 additional plant compounds in hemp. These include minerals, terpenes, flavonoids, chlorophyll, fatty acids, and others that are still being discovered. Full spectrum CBD that is hemp-derived cannot legally have more than 0.3% THC in it, which will not get you high.

Broad Spectrum CBD

Broad spectrum CBD essentially contains all of these aspects with one exception. Broad spectrum does not contain THC, which means it excludes a portion of the entourage effect. On the positive side, broad spectrum CBD may be a great option for those who are concerned with THC use due to employment regulations.

CBD Isolate

CBD isolate products contain only the CBD molecule with no additional cannabinoids or plant compounds. The entourage effect does not apply to isolate products, which many people feel reduces the effectiveness of CBD.
