Marijuana Delivery Services

Marijuana Delivery Services

Definition: Marijuana delivery services are licensed businesses that bring cannabis products from a dispensary or delivery-only retailer to a customer’s home. They operate only where state and local law allow it. Drivers must verify that customers are of legal age, usually 21 for adult use or a registered patient for medical cannabis.

How Does Cannabis Delivery Work?

  1. Order online or by phone from a licensed retailer that serves your area.
  2. Upload or show valid ID, plus a medical card if required.
  3. A driver brings your order in sealed, labeled packaging.
  4. The driver checks your ID in person before handing it over.

Orders are subject to the same purchase limits and taxes as in-store sales.

Where Is Marijuana Delivery Legal?

It varies by state and even city. California allows licensed delivery statewide, including into many areas without storefront dispensaries. Other states limit delivery to medical patients, require local approval, or don’t allow it at all. Deliveries can’t cross state lines, since cannabis remains federally illegal outside narrow medical exceptions.

How Do You Spot an Illegal Delivery Service?

  • No state license number listed on its website or menu
  • No ID check at the door
  • Unlabeled products or products without lab results
  • Prices far below licensed retailers, or offers to ship by mail

Unlicensed sellers aren’t held to testing rules, which raises the risk of contaminated or mislabeled products. Most state regulators offer an online license lookup.
