Prop 215

Prop 215

Proposition 215 (Prop 215) also known as the Compassionate Use Act of 1996, is a California law that permits the use of medical cannabis. Prop 215 was the first statewide medical marijuana ballot initiative passed at the state level, and was a major step forward in the movement to legalize medical cannabis. The law allows patients with a valid doctor’s recommendation to possess and cultivate marijuana for personal medical use, and has since been expanded to protect a growing system of collective and cooperative distribution.
